Should Japan prioritize relations with its neighbors or the United States?
Japan should prioritize relations with United States over its neighbors. Democracy is one of the fundamental pillars supporting Japan forcefully. Although there are some differences between Japanese democracy and American one, where American democracy is expansive and its government often tries to force other countries to adopt it dogmatically, Japan and America have a similar attitude for Democracy. We choose our leader by election, and the government often listens carefully to the opinions of its nationals. However, China does not dare to care about the opinions or thoughts of its citizens but even their lives sometimes. For instance, several years ago, a Chinese bullet train collided into the back of another train. Far from saving the lives in the accident, the Chinese government dug a big hole and tried to bury the vehicles under the ground. We cannot get along with China, let alone South Korea which is always dredging up memories of world war Ⅱ and picking up a fight against us.
On the contrary, Japan and America have also had a strong economic tie and prospered step by step. For instance, when it comes to Co-manufacturing of cars, thanks to AI technology, Japan will achieve automatic driving in the near future, which will definitely bring a lot of benefits to both countries.
In conclusion, Japan should refocus the benefits that America brings us and all we need to realize that essentially the relation with another country is built on the fundamental spirit and respect of each other.
